Big Horn High School English teacher, Colter Brantz, has been named Sheridan County School District #1’s Teacher of the Year. Brantz has been teaching English at SCSD1 for eight years.
Some of his most significant accomplishments include evolving the English curriculum and playing a central role in bringing Sheridan College English classes to the district; allowing students to earn college and high school credits simultaneously. In 2011, he was also recognized by the Wyoming Department of Education for significantly increasing student reading proficiency.
“Mr. Brantz is an outstanding educator who knows how to connect with students and maximize their success in the classroom,” said Marty Kobza, SCSD1 superintendent. “He works hard to advance student learning every single day, and the results speak for themselves.” In 2016, 96.67 percent of 10th grade BHHS students were at or above proficiency in English. BHHS student ACT English and reading scores also handily beat the benchmark, state average and national average, and currently stand at 22.4 and 22.9, respectively.
Brantz is the BHHS assistant football coach and was named Wyoming Assistant Football Coach of the Year in 2015. He is also head track coach and the high school academic team coach. He spends his summers volunteering as a youth football camp coach and training student athletes.
