Big Horn Education Fund

Our sole mission is to provide scholarships to graduating seniors of Big Horn High School for the purpose of furthering their education.

Our scholarships are for the first year of college or technical school, with the option to renew for a second year.  Awards are made in recognition of:

  • academic achievement
  • character and civic involvement
  • education and career goals
  • financial need

Our selection process involves an application and a personal interview.  We have awarded scholarships to 160 outstanding seniors since the Fund was activated in 1985.   In 2014,  we awarded 8 scholarships of $2500 each.

Our scholarships are funded through the generous donations of community members and Big Horn school alumni.  Click Here for Donation Letter.  Our board is comprised of Big Horn community members and alumni.

Big Horn Education Fund, Inc. is a non-profit charitable organization.  Gifts to the Fund are fully tax-deductible, and may be sent to:

Scholarship Application Process

BHHS Seniors:

Senior applicants must submit the application with transcript of grades, a list of activities, personal and work references, and an essay.   Applications are due in Ms. Mavrakis’ office by Thursday, June 24, 2016.  Click here for Application

Our Board takes the time to interview each applicant individually to get a better sense of who you are and your circumstances.  While you may find the idea of the interview a bit unnerving, we are all local folks from the community who want to see you succeed, and participating in our interview will serve as a warm-up for all the other interviews you'll have during your life.

Another scholarship program available only to Big Horn seniors is the Lion's club scholarship programs.  Their program is run separately from ours.  Only in special circumstances such as extreme financial need might a student be awarded both scholarships.

Renewal Information:

Students who are awarded a BHEF Scholarship for year one (freshman year) can reapply for a second-year scholarship.  Please email a letter of interest stating your accomplishments during your freshman year at college, your freshman year transcripts & GPAs for both semesters, and where to send the scholarship award – the admissions office and a point of contact for your college.  The Board will review requests for second-year scholarships in August and award them accordingly.  There is no guarantee of a second-year scholarship.  Please email your information by June 20, 2016 to:  Misty Taylor, President of BHEF:  misty@rangeweb.net

Thank you for your support of the Big Horn Education Fund.
